Question about gun shows

There is going to be a gun show here next weekend. I'm already leaking oil out my ear from all the options, but thanks to all i am narrowing.

The question is.....Is it worth while waiting for a gun show? Do vendors give special deals etc....at them?

I'd like to hear yous folks ideas and if you have bought at gun shows. Problems, benefits etc.....

Thanks,
RK

Re: Question about gun shows

Don't expect to find better prices, just more selection. I can't say I've ever been ripped off at a gun show. Most of the guns I own, I bought at shows, (private sales, no paper work). If I do buy through a dealer, it's only because I can't find a private sale for something I just happen to be looking for.

Good luck in your search. BTW, if you've a local shop that doesn't charge an arm and a leg, you might be better off going that way, especially if you've limited experience with firearms. They will order you what you want, if it is not in stock.

Re: Question about gun shows

Most of my rifles were bought from private people standing in line to get into a gunshow. The best deals are outside the gunshow, bring cash!

Re: Question about gun shows

I'm about 95% sure I'm gonna be buying Local gun shop.

I wouldn't trust my lack of knowledge on buying a used fire arm from a private owner. Unless I knew them or knew some one real well who could vouch for them. Be just my luck to buy a used turd for my very first Pistol.

Go to the show anyway, the experience is well worth the small price to enter. While there, talk to as many dealers as you can and ask lots of questions.

A small local dealer tried to sell me a Mini 14 once, his price was way too high, I didn't buy. Later I saw him at a gun show, still trying to sell guns at way too high of prices. I never did buy a Mini.

Buyer beware.

Re: Question about gun shows

RoadKing, until you are "into" firearms, it probably is safer for you to buy through a reputable gun shop.

That being said, however, you definitely should attend gun shows. You will need to feed ammo to your new acquisition and maybe (just maybe) there will be some in your caliber at a decent price. You will also want to look for any other accessories (slings, sight adjustment tools, extra magazines, bayonets, cleaning tools, oils, solvents, etc. etc.) that you feel you might need. Because a firearm just isn't a firearm without accessories - that's part of the fun!

Good luck to you!

Re: Question about gun shows

Out here in the west our gun shows do nto require any paperwork of any kind, it is legal to sell guns for cash no questions asked, I assume it is that way in many other states as well and that is PRICELESS as far as I am concerned and well worth any extra money you have to spend, however, I have never seen a situation where guns are more expensive at gun shows than they are in gun shops, so a gun show gives you the ability to get a gun cheaper and without the hassles of paperwork and registartion etc. I will take that any day of the week!

Yes you're correct. As a first time buyer he should use a dealer. And If I'm guessing correctly, his handle being Roadking, he rides. Is this true, Roadking? If it is ask some of your HD buddies or the guys at the shop, they can direct you to a reputable dealer.

Ohio is one closer, but, caution, if you try to buy from anyone who knows the law, he/she will ask to see a drivers license as it is illegal to sell to anyone from out of state. some will ask, while others (individuals carrying around a gun) may not. I've had it both ways. Most don't look beyond seeing it is an Ohio DL.

However, if it's a long gun, I think you can sell to a neighboring state if the law allows private sales in that state.

Better check the law before you drive as ATF agents have been known to be on the loose at gun shows.

ONLY from an individual...You don't make that clear......if it's a DEALER at a gunshow ( which is about all I see at the ones I've been too ), the same paperwork applies as if you had gone to their shop.

The media acts like you can waltz into a gun show and waltz out with an MP-5 and no paper work....it's baloney. I'd say 90% of the guns sold at a show have the 4473 form filled out.

Personally, I think gunshows are a waste of time.

I see very few individuals selling there, and many times the dealers are from out of State, so you pay for the gun, then they have to ship it to a local FFL holder, and then you get to go pick it up there.....no way that is cheaper, because you are paying shipping twice if it's a new gun.

Add to that you have to pay 5-10 bucks for the "privilege" of going in to shop ( HOW many of ya'll would put up with that at a dealer's shop door ? ) and I simply don't bother going.

Want the best prices ? Shop online, and find yourself a small shop with a FFL holder that will do the transfer for 15-20 bucks......we have a local one that will hand you his dealer price sheets and just tell you....add 20 bucks for me + shipping + tax + background check to the gun price and there you are.

Yes, most people don't understand this. If it is a dealer selling at a gun show they still require a background check.

More government corporate shenanigans where they get the gun dealers to go into business so then they can slap regulations on them.

And just think about it guys. There are an estimated 200 million guns in America.

Despite the patriotard fantasies, the government doesn't have a list where they plan to steal the guns of every American. It would be virtually impossible.

It is akin to saying that the Feds are going to confiscate every household sink in the country.

No, but they could pass a law that makes it a felony to possess.

Not the plan.

The PLAN is incremental:

1. Ban "assault" weapons again......probably "high" cap mags too, like 10rds now, later amended to 5rds

2. Require micro stamped ammo, non stamped ammo subjects you to jail time.

3. Raise taxes astronomically on ammo and reloading components.

4. Registration of all firearms.

5. Limits on the number you can own.

6. "Safe" storage requirements with inspections or storage at central locations ( like police stations ).

SEE where it's going ?

First gun, buy from a gun shop but go to the gun show. I look forward to the gun show every month. Its almost a social event for me. I get to check prices, look at all kinds of guns, and chat with folks. Just keep it clean because I guarantee there are g-men running around looking for a mark to crucify.

Re: Question about gun shows

Gun shows are good if ya know what your doing. As MM stated, the best deals are outside in the parking lot . Bring CA$H. Example...My local Gun Shop will gouge you till you bleed on inflated ammo prices and guns. Crappy WASR 10 he wanted $550 + Tax + Call in. Jump forward to the next gun show, I made a cash deal for xxx amount of WASR 10's NIB w/ all the crap that comes with. 2x30 rounders, bayonet, mag pouch, leather slings etc. Long story short, $400 ea. OTD. If this "dealer" did a legit call in, I will eat my hat! I'm sure he pretended to do the call in with his cell phone, but as far as actually calling in, I think not. Hell of an actor though. The receipt he gave me was so scribbled you could not even read the darn thing...!!! On the other hand, The regular ammo guy that sets up was selling wallyworld Remington .38 Spec. 50 Rnd boxes for $29.99 + Tax...True story, but the day before I went to Wally World and bought the same chit on sale @ $13.67 + Tax per box. The counter guy at WW told me the dealers are cleaning out his shelves on a regular basis and flipping it @ the Gun Shows. I did some stranger a favor at the Gun Show the other day cause he was getting ready to buy that crap for $30+ a box when I quietly told him about the Real Price @ WallyWorld. He sincerely thanked me for saving him a ton of dough and he hit the door running w/ a big grin on his face....!!! I ain't got no sympathy for price gouging scumbags...That was my charitable deed for the week. LOL

That's why I only buy my sinks at hardware shows.
